I will be giving a class at the Bridgton Public Library the week after the Genealogy Class January 24, 2012 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on how to use ancestry.com at the Library.  The Bridgton Public Library has free access to ancestry.com.  Ancestry.com is an invaluable tool in searching for your ancestors!!  It will be a class worth taking!

We have been very busy at the Bridgton Historical Society, lots of work to be done!  I am working on an upcoming Genealogy Classes.  The first one will be January 17th at 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. I am really looking forward to it as I have heard that others are looking forward to it as well.  Starting the next Saturday, January 21, 2012, we will have workshops from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  This will continue till people are no longer interested.  I have offered to go into the Bridgton Historical Society to help people get their genealogy together, help with research on family trees, if needed. I am looking forward to this even moreso than the classes because we will be getting into the interesting part for me in genealogy.

It is fun for me to see people find their ancestors and learn about what interesting people they have on their family tree.  I can't say much about this without giving a class online before it's time! So I will conclude this part of the conversation.

Please stay tuned, we are...

Yesterday Lega and I attended the 21st Century Workshop in Biddeford, Maine. It was given by Maine Historical Society for the Maine Memory Network. Which we really want to get started in. It was very interesting to learn how they do things and things that we can do to digitalize our archives at the Bridgton Historical Society.

I spent the summer working on the Cemetery Project for the Bridgton Historical Society. I have to say the those who worked on the Cemetery Project before me did an exceptional job!! A lot of the research that they have done on it took a lot of research! Now to keep it updated.

I have spent the summer taking pictures of all grave markers in 19 of the 29 cemeteries that we have in Bridgton. I found a few that weren't listed and I will keep a record of them at the Historical Society. We will keep the pictures either on a lot of cd's and/or external hard drive.

I have to say that this has been a learning experience for me. Walking amongst so many that I recognized in my studies of the town of Bridgton. I met one couple that was there for "peace and quiet". They were from Anchorage, Alaska, they were just sitting by a grave plot enjoying a quiet place in Bridgton. They asked me if they were bothering me and I said no, I will just crop you out of the picture. It was kind of nice having a living person...
