About the Portland Observatory Pitcher, 1807

This creamware pitcher, produced for the American market in Liverpool, England, was created to commemorate the construction of the Portland Observatory, and depicts various signal flags flown to alert merchants to the pending arrival of ships. This pitcher was owned by the Peabody family of South Bridgton, prominent early settlers and founders of Bridgton's First Congregational Church.
